Banner at UT, Martin

Banner @ UT, Martin
Contact:
Judy Rayburn, Director of Admissions

This is the information I gathered from Martin, I've lost my notes, I know there was more....oops!

· UTM has been using Banner for 9 years.
· Originally didn’t have the applications to support their existing systems, were forced to purchase and love what it does for them.
· On line apps: XAP (http://collegefortn.com/), banner’s on line application and they accept paper applications.
· XtenderSolutions (http://www.sct.com/Education/products/p_b_xtender.html) is used for capturing data from XAP.

Here's what I have found out so far:

They purchased “vanilla” banner.
Programs offered: AH, Nursing, DDS, MD & GHS.
AH, Nursing & GHS are centralized. The college of Medicine and Dentistry are de-centralized; there are three separate offices on campus for admissions.
MD uses AMCAS –American Medical College Application Service.
DDS uses AADAS – Associated American Dental Schools Application Service.
Their Graduate applicants (GHS, AH & Nursing) use http://www.collegenet.com/ for on-line apps.
Undergraduate applicants (AH & Nursing) apply through http://www.gacollege411/ for on-line apps.
Both applications use XtenderSolutions (http://www.sct.com/Education/products/p_b_xtender.html) to capture the application data and transfer into banner system.
They use touchnet (http://www.touchnet.com/) for credit/debit cards and web check payments.
Crystal reports (http://www.crystalreports.com/)are used to create reports from the data found in the Banner and other data sources.
Electronic transfer of transcripts is in process but they are having a hard time matching tables to the variety of fields on transcripts from different colleges & universities.
FICE (or Federal codes used to identify U.S./Foreign colleges and universities) are problematic as they have to be entered into the system as needed, finding these can be difficult.

There are security questions, as everyone has access to all data entered through crystal reports they questions the legality of their comments after committee meetings especially since everyone can read those comments
Downloading AMCAS applications to Banner has not been an easy task, because of common matching (CM) built into the the Personal ID matching (PIDM) takes a lot of time for the database to search for the record before inserting it. i.e. John Smith would go into a “suspended status” if there was a John W. Smith that already existed and they physically go into Banner and either marks it as a match or not.
They are not using document tracking or scanning of transcripts because she is not comfortable with value added security (VBS) offered through banner and the ability of others to have access to this data using crystal reports.

Linda also expressed that sharing of data between the Financial Aid, Registrar, Student health and the admissions office has improved immensely since implementing the banner system
